Learn how emotional eating can sabotage your weight loss

When we feel bad, we often reach for an external source of satisfaction. For many, food is the one who brings comfort. Consciously or unconsciously, when we are faced with problems, stress or simply do not know what we ourselves, we move in the direction of - the kitchen. Seems to us that this is the only way to cope with stress, and we see that there are other, healthier options.

However, derived pleasure is fleeting and can jeopardize our efforts to achieve or maintain a healthy weight. Emotional eating often leads to overeating, especially if it is a high calorie, sweet or fatty foods. To balance our diet we have become aware of the relationship between food and emotions. For example, according to a new study conducted at the University of Cleveland, people who aspire to please other people feel intense pressure to eat when they believe that it will help the other person to feel comfortable in their company.

Emotional eating is a way to suppress or reduce negative emotions, such as stress, anger, boredom, sadness and loneliness. These emotions are triggered by a variety of disturbing events in our daily life such as unemployment, financial pressure, health problems, love problems, problems at work, bad weather, fatigue, etc. Concerned about upcoming events or some conflict situations can focus on comforting food instead dealing with a painful situation.

A feeling of guilt about overeating that leads to a new binge which then leads to the next guilt and overeating. Unhealthy cycle continues with no apparent end until you decide to change. Whatever the emotions hiding behind overeating, the end result is the same-because emotions always come back. They are an integral part of life and the conflict situation we want to avoid.
